Special Auction Art Work
A Tale Fairly Told
I created a special piece for an auction that will support the work of Kentucky River Children’s Advocacy Center (KRCAC) and their Care Cottage, which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing the trauma experienced by child victims of sexual abuse.
Each artist was asked to interpret the dark side of fairy tales, and each piece needed to have a reflective element.
For my submission, I chose to paint on plexiglass recalling the great animated cell paintings of yesteryear. Eventually, the animated movie became the biggest delivery system of fairy tales to the masses. Who was bigger than Disney? So, I couldn’t help but paint an element of the poisoned apple from Snow White. (With a pointed jab.)
I added a mirror element in the form of a shadow on the lower right. In the photo, the shape appears black, but in person, you are the reflection. There are also a few esoteric visual references scattered here and there.
The frame is hand built and hand sculpted, mimicking the tree elements in the painting. The roots dig deep.
I truly hope this piece finds the right home, if not, I guess I’ll have to bid myself. 🙂
