New Charles Parker Boggs Exhibition at the University of Pikeville

Charles Parker Boggs is an artist who deals with sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, and installation art. His work often includes references to art history and Appalachian surrealism, as well as a healthy dose of humor. His newest installation, The Only Way Out is Art, is currently on display at the Weber Art Gallery, 2nd floor of the Record Memorial Building at the University of Pikeville.

The installation consists of a U-Haul that has crash-landed in the middle of the gallery, scattering its contents throughout the space. At first glance, it may seem like a simple premise, but there is much more to this exhibit than meets the eye. With references to art history and Appalachian culture, as well as a healthy dose of humor, this exhibit will require all of your observation skills.

One of the exhibit’s most striking aspects is how it uses the gallery space. Rather than being confined to one area, the installation fills the entire space, giving visitors the feeling that they are walking through Boggs’ mind. This is furthered by the various narratives that are woven throughout the exhibit.

As you explore The Only Way Out is Art, you will undoubtedly be drawn into Boggs’ world. Whether you are admiring his use of value or marveling at the ingenuity of his designs, there is no doubt that this is an exhibit that will stay with you long after you leave the gallery.

If you are looking for an exhibition that challenges your perception of what art can be, then look no further than The Only Way Out is Art by Charles Parker Boggs. With its references to art history and Appalachian surrealism, as well as its use of humor, this exhibit is sure to provoke thought and stimulate conversation long after you leave the gallery.
